NURSE ASSISTANT / HOME HEALTH AIDE (CNA/CHHA)

The Nurse Assistant / Home Health Aide Program, prepares the graduate for certification by the State of California as an entry-level worker on a health care team. The curriculum provides graduates with theory and practical application of skills related to basic patient care.

Program Overview And Course Description
Casa Loma College conducts continuous classes throughout the year. The program is 232.5 hours in length. The Nurse Assistant component consists of 192.5.5 hours, including 8 hours CPR and 16 hours of makeup time, with the Home Health Aide component totaling 40 hours. The program is part time, scheduled 3 days per week. The maximum lecture class and clinical class size will not exceed 15 students. Casa Loma College maintains a student/teacher ratio in class and clinical settings of 15:1.
The Nurse Assistant component is organized into eighteen modules with the Home Health Aide component organized into five modules. The modules are designed to provide the student with an introduction to personal and vocational relationships and principles of health and illness. Emphasis is placed on patient rights, legal issues, communication, documentation, safety and the utilization of basic nursing procedures, and then into the role of the home health aide within an agency and as it relates to the personal care at home of a patient. Modules are usually taken in this sequence; however, the college reserves the right to modify the sequence should the need arise.

Home Health Aide Program
Designed for the Certified Nurse Assistant, this program provides students with theory and practical applications of skills related to patient care in a home-care setting.

  • Documentation and Community Resources

Schedule / Hours

  • Part Time = 2 weeks

Requirements:

  • Minimum age of 17.5 years

  • Pass the Standard Assessment Exam with a score of 491 or higher

  • Pass the college's physical exam

  • Physically capable of performing the duties of a nurse assistant / home health aide

Completion of the program qualifies the student to take the California State Exam for certification as a Certified Nurse Assistant / Home Health Aide in the State of California.
