EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN - BASIC (EMT)

Program is approved by State of California, however it does not fall under ABHES institutional Grant of Accreditation.

Program is available only through South Bay Workforce Investment Board and Contracted Services.

EMT-Basic Program - a California State Certification Program

The EMT-Basic Course is approved by the State of California and Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency. The program is 185 hours, which exceeds the minimum requirements by 71 hours, thus ensuring our EMT-Basic graduates meet the high standards placed on them. Upon successful completion of the program, students may apply for EMT-Basic Certification and take the competency based written examination.

Casa Loma also provides it's own Ambulance (donated by Schaefer Ambulance Service) for the class. This will give you a more realistic training than any other school provides.

Curriculum:
The curriculum is based on the LA County EMS Core Curriculum which follows the Emergency Medical Technician-Basic Basic: National Standard Curriculum approved by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration and Department of Transportation.

Preparatory ● Airway ● Patient Assessment Medical & Behavioral Emergencies ● Obstetrics Gynecology ● Trauma ● Children ● Infants Operations ● Elective (advanced airway)

Students will learn:

  • Body Mechanics ● Airway Management ● Basic Life Support ● Field Triage
  • Pre-hospital Emergency Care of the Ill & Injured
  • Spinal Immobilization
  • Automated External Defibrillation (AED)

Requirements:

  • High school graduate or posses a GED certificate or equivalency thereof.
  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • Pass the standard Assessment Exam with a score of 554 or higher
  • Physically capable of performing the duties of a EMT-Basic
