RESTORATIVE NURSE ASSISTANT

Objectives: The Restorative Nursing Assistant Seminar provides the participant with the knowledge and skills to perform restorative nursing care on patients, and assisting patients to reach their maximum mobility potential. Participants will learn range of motion, strengthening exercise, ambulating and transferring techniques, activities for daily living, restorative feeding programs, and documentation.

Program Overview and Course Description

Casa Loma College schedules the Nursing Assistant Seminar every three months. These classes are thirty-six (36) hours, 9 weeks, scheduled one evening per week. The student/teacher ratio in the classroom is 24:1 and in lab, 15:1.

The Restorative Nursing Assistant Seminar will cover the following topics.

  • Philosophy and principles of rehabilitation
  • Medical terminology
  • Assessment and Care Planning
  • Exercise programs and range of motion
  • Transferring patients
  • Types of restraints
  • Activities of daily living
  • Title 22 and Title 42 of regulations
  • Physical Comfort and Pain Management
  • Feeding and swallowing disorders
  • Admission and discharge
